Chamonix ski & snowboarding holidays in France will show you one of the oldest, and most famous, holiday destinations in the Alps. NeveFest offer the best hotels in Chamonix, a real French town nestled under the slopes of Mont Blanc that is great for Extreme Sports holidays alongside the highest mountain in western Europe.
For skiers and snowboarders alike, the Chamonix valley is legendary, and offers some of the greatest off-piste and touring in the world for the adventurous. But if you aren’t up for that, don’t worry: there’s a huge variety of terrain across several ski areas in the Valley, catering for all levels of ability and ambition – and everyone gets the spectacular scenery for free! Because of excellent road connections, the Chamonix valley is a great base for wider exploration. For skiers and snowboarders, Courmayeur, Megeve, Les Contamines and Flaine are all easy day trips, and Verbier and the Aosta valley resorts are also accessible if you don’t mind taking an hour or so’s trip.
Because it is not a purpose-built resort, all the businesses in the Valley are in keen competition, so it’s easy to find a cheap hotel in Chamonix and there’s an endless variety of bars, restaurants and shops: no “resort company outlets” here!
Outside ski season, in spring, summer and autumn the list of activities and attractions is too long to put in this short introduction. Climbing of course, for any standard from beginner (there are two indoor walls and an outdoor practice wall) to the most extreme (ice climbing on the glaciers, and the endless severe pitches of the Aguilles and other peaks).
Also MTB mountain-biking, rafting, summer luge, paragliding, walking (all the main lifts open in summer to get you up to high altitude), swimming (both an indoor pool, and a few miles away a huge outdoor lake with beaches, barbecue pits and ice cream vans: you can lie on your airbed and look up at Mont Blanc!)
And on and on. Chamonix is the second most visited destination in France after Paris, so the old saying “If you are bored with Paris, you are bored of life” applies here as well!
One of our apartments is in the village of Les Houches, about 5km from Chamonix town. It’s quieter at night, but there are several nice bars and restaurants within a hundred metres, and a good small supermarket ten minutes walk away. If you don’t have a car, there is an excellent bus service to Chamonix and the rest of the Valley. The nearest ski lift is 150 metres away.
Les Houches prides itself on being “child-friendly” and our featured apartment there carries on that theme: it has a good range of baby and toddler equipment, and a large outdoor terrace that is safely fenced off and shady in the midday sun. Back to our skiing holidays homepage.
